Arts Venue Manager

NOISE Lab is a Community Interest Company (CIC) established as a trading arm for the award winning charity NOISEfestival.com. The NOISE Free Arts Lab shop in Manchester city centre with initial funding from Manchester City Council, will open from late November 2009 until March 2010. Inside this multi-functional space NOISE will:

• Allow NOISE artists to sell original work such as clothes, jewellery, ceramics, photographs and accessories.
• Host free creative exhibitions, seminars, workshops, portfolio reviews and other events.
• Offer creative opportunities and the transfer of skills to local and visiting creatives, communities and students.

NOISE Lab are looking for an enthusiastic, creative Retail and Marketing Manager, with an outgoing attitude and willingness to go beyond the job description. This person will be responsible for the day-to-day running of this experimental venue to the highest possible standard. Another role also exists for an Assistant Venue Manager who will be required to provide support during busy periods and also cover the Venue Manager’s days off.

Main Duties
• Leading team of staff and volunteers to create a welcoming environment for visitors
• Responsibility for retail systems – stock management, cashing up, deliveries, commercial performance
• Making key decisions about stock and product selection
• Support and assist the NOISE Arts Lab Co-ordinator in the organisation and presentation of events
• Providing information and support to young artists interested in participating in the NOISE Festival
• Promoting the venue and events on site through online social networking and arts websites
• Maintaining high level of customer service, health and safety and security
• Dealing with sales as and when required
Skills
• Interest and background in retail and the creative industries
• Confidence with administrative and financial systems
• Experience of working in a busy retail environment
• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite 4 preferred, but not required
Hours
Venue Manager – Full Time (40 hours per week) / Assistant Venue Manager - Part Time (20 -25 hours per week).
Both roles will require weekend and occasional evening work.
