Our client, is a major engineering company. They currently have a requirement for a SQL Server DBA Support Engineer to join their professional team. You should have proven track record in a similar role (in a commercial environment - a plus) You must have other cross skills as required for the overall work load and to be in a position for your contract to be esxtended to work on other projects.

Responsible for supporting the rollout and ongoing support of the MS SQL 2005 corporate server databases and ensuring their performance, availability and security

Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the system.
- Work to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and to ensure high resilience and performance tuning.
- To proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum.
- Responsible for providing trend analysis to management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
- Responsible for troubleshooting and problem solving of MS SQL 2005.
- Responsible for improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades.
- Responsible for implementation and release of database changes according to agreed timescales and costs.

Must have:

SQL 2005 Installation, Configuration and support including:

- instance management

- recovery configuration (database mirroring etc)

- performance tuning

Windows 2003 server installation and support (HP servers)

Active Directory support

F&P support

Understanding of Network/Data Security


Nice to have
MCTS -SQL Server 2005

SharePoint installation and support

SQL 2000 installation and support

Windows 2008

VMWare installation, configuration and support

IIS installation, configuration and support

ISA installation, configuration and support

Scripting (VB and Powershell)

The point to emphasise is that we want a person with DBA skills but not necessarily a full-time DBA. With the size of our planned infrastructure we would not have enough work for a dedicated DBA and therefore the candidate would need skills to do other things as well as their primary DBA responsibilities.
