Could you be a foster carer for Salford City Council?

Date posted: Thursday 26th November
Location: Salford

Salford City Council family placement team are looking to recruit and train foster carers for children of all ages, but especially older children and sibling groups.

You will need to be able to care for a child or children, for varying lengths of time, depending on which type of fostering you choose. Whilst the child is in your care, you will need to provide a supportive and loving home at what may be a difficult time in his or her life. We have a range of different schemes to suit the needs of our looked after children, which should fit in with your life and family.

You don't need any particular qualifications to foster for Salford, but you need to have the time, space, commitment and maturity to care for a child through difficult times. Not to mention a sense of fun and the energy to keep up with them!

The team will support you to attend training and help you complete the standards required within the first twelve months of being approved. You’ll also receive a weekly allowance and skills payment between £166 and £284 per child dependent on their age and your experience.

We welcome applications from people over 21, and have no upper age limit. Foster carers need to have both the experience and energy to meet the needs of a foster child. Ideally you'll live in Salford, or be able to commute easily for regular meetings and visits.

Children really benefit from being placed with foster carers who share their language, religion and culture and we welcome applications from people from all backgrounds. You can be single, living together or married, straight or gay, as long as you have the time and love to give to a child, we’d like to hear from you.

The process of becoming a foster carer usually takes around six months from your formal application to approval, but the satisfaction you’ll gain from helping a child to feel safe and supported will make it really rewarding.
