Job Description
Primary HLTA is required at a 2 form entry inclusion school in South Manchester to provide PA cover across Key Stage 1 and 2. The successful primary HLTA will be required to supervise whole classes and lead lessons in specific subjects while the class teacher is released to do their planning and preparation. Higher level teaching assistant work is an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to gain more independent classroom experience or those interested in pursuing a career in teaching.
Typical HLTA duties include:
- Supervising work that has been set in accordance with the school policy;
- Managing the behaviour of students whilst they are undertaking this work to ensure a constructive working environment;
- Responding to any questions from students about process and procedures;
- Dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the school’s policies and procedures and ensuring health and safety is maintained;
- Collecting any completed work after the lesson and returning it to the appropriate teacher;
- Reporting back as appropriate using the school’s agreed referral procedures on the behaviour of students during the class and any other issues arising;
- Ensuring facilities used are kept and left tidy and safe at the end of each session. These can vary depending on experience of the successful applicant.

Key Skills
To work as a Primary HLTA you will need:
- HLTA status or TA Level 3/4 qualification;
- GCSE's A - C in Maths and English;
- A proven track record of dealing with behaviour management issues. Â
